DIY Running Gear

Image
I get a joy out of creating things and do-it-yourself'ing stuff as a way to help fill my days. After running for a few months, I realized I needed some new gear or something to motivate myself a bit. It's weird how women seem to come alive when they're wearing something new or at least different. Running gear is costly but who says you have to spend mad amounts of money to have your own look on the pavement. Perhaps one day I will start my own line of fitness apparel. Look out world! Beast Mode! My toenail fell off after the third month due to fungus from keeping polish on a bit too long as well as the moisture and friction.   Hmmm.... What can I do to give these some pizzazz?  Got it! Shoot, I should start my own brand!   Nifty pocket piece for keys, coins and pepper spray.   Wearing my new creation . Now the message is for those passersby who stare and the guys who act like the...

Life Lessons That Running Teaches You!

Image
  1. It’s all mental. Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re absolutely correct!  Only you can determine what you are capable of.   2. Consistency is key. Consistency creates habit and as for anything in life you really want, you must not give up pursuing it.   3. Anything worth winning is worth working hard for.   If you’re a gamer then you’ll know that just like Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry, the toughest time comes right before a big reward or achievement. Don’t give up! You’ll be so proud of yourself in the long-run.   4. Sometimes you just have to fake it ‘til you make it! Rappers do it all the time! When I first hit the road to running, it was a very awkward feeling and I was convinced everyone knew I was ‘faking’ until I kept at it and kept envisioning myself as a ‘runner’. One foot in front of the other.   5. We all “have the time”, we just think we don’t! You mean to tell me that out of 24 hours each day, you can’t muster u...

Food Porn! Are You Hooked?

Image
“All porn is not created equally!” Every day and night we are constantly bombarded by illicit images of saucy, wet, syrup-slathered naughty delights that just make our mouths water for a taste. This, of course, being the ploy of the food industry and manufacturers to get us to just, “hurry up and buy!” As we fall victim and indulge in these palatable pleasures, our wallets only get thinner as our waistlines get thicker. The real trick is that these commercials toy with the ‘pleasure/reward’ centers of the brain that secrete the ‘feel-good’ endorphin, dopamine, which gives us the same feeling as being ‘high’ on drugs or that we get when having sex. Our brain gets so excited at these images that our appetite increases and it’s almost as if you can already taste that new double-stacked, grilled, BBQ burger and actually feel the sauce drip down the side of your lips. After one of those Popeye’s ‘Wicked Chicken’ commercials, my stomach literally growls and I can imagine yanking a strip o...

Your True Core!

Image
Deep inside of you, past your epidermis and abdominal muscles, your fibrous tissues and internal organs - somewhere that can't be designated on an anatomy chart - lies the reason that you try as hard as you do.  Though it's not a muscle in the traditional sense, it is nonetheless an entity: a pulsating substance that drives you each and every day, more so than the results you see in the mirror. But striving for a six-pack doesn't make you vain, or narcissistic, or ego-driven: it's an external reflection of the passion and dedication that bubbles out from within. Live it. Breathe it. Show it! You have permission!    Oxygen Magazine Spring 2013

11 Secrets For Exercise Success.

Image
If you ever look at some people who always manage to stay in shape and wonder what's so special about them, now, you may not have to. Just as there are proven "secrets" to the rich, famous and any other class in between on how they got there, there are also secrets of the slim and svelte. Follow me: Secret #1:   Having a clear and realistic image of your own ideal body in your mind (and not Giselle Bunchden's!)  Reason it works: No one is 100% identical to another so to get a good, sound image of your own frame structure, height, and problem areas will leave you feeling more motivated rather than envious of Brazilian beach beauties.  Your Method: Specifically decide what your ultimate goal is - to add more muscle mass, tone up certain areas or lose 20lbs - then imagine what you will look like at the end of your journey. If you can, conjure up this ideal image in your head when you're working out, feeling lazy and about to ignore your workout, or feeling a ...
